Vintage Ceramic Oval Butter Bay, IVORY Made In USA
Vintage "Butter Bay" butter dish refers to a style of French-style butter crock (or butter bell) that keeps butter soft and spreadable without refrigeration by using a water seal, made by companies in the USA, popular for their retro kitchen charm and practical function, found on marketplaces like eBay, Etsy, and Poshmark.
The high fat content of butter makes it less likely to attract bacterial growth or mold. Fats can go rancid, and a butter dish left out for a week or more will develop ``off'' flavors to many people, but others are perfectly fine slathering that butter onto their toast.
How They Work:
1. You pack softened butter into the bell (lid).
2. You fill the base with cold water (about 1/4 to 1/3 cup).
3. Invert the bell into the base, submerging the butter in water, which protects it from air and spoilage.
4. Change the water every 3-4 days to keep it fresh.
NO cracks, scratches, or chips. Excellent condition.
